Week 1

HELLO!

I'm so excited to be sharing my weight-loss journey! I'm officially 6 weeks postpartum and officially able to restart my diet and exercise. Wahoo!!!

Here's my story:

I have struggled with obesity all my life. I never exercised when I was young, I abused typical "comfort food," developed an Eating Disorder (more on that later), and as I was finally healing and getting healthy I became pregnant.
This is me as a teenager:

16 years old
A horrible picture, I know. As you can see I wasn't grotesquely overweight, but I have never been healthy or happy with my body. So in college I decided to take charge of my health - I started at 180lbs and trimmed down to 155lbs.

I will admit, I did not use healthy means to reach this "ideal weight". It started out fine, just walking an hour every day. Then in turned in to cutting calories. Then diet pills (with ephedrine - which soon after became illegal by the FDA). When I got engaged I became even more obsessed - particularly with exercise. I was spending 3+ hrs a day either doing yoga, running, or weightlifting. I learned how to abuse laxatives and diuretics, and when my husband caught me purging one day I realized that I had a problem. I was losing weight but I was losing the good weight. Ironically my heart was in the best shape that it's been - I was running up Colorado mountains every day, and I miss that exhilaration.
Then it happened. I got pregnant. And I got BIG. 60 more pounds big.

I let myself go during pregnancy. I ate whatever I wanted (whatever I said baby wanted) and I didn't exercise at all; it was a complete 180*. The sickness made me hate myself.

My life changed when this little one showed up:

Isn't she the cutest?!?! My heart explodes every time I look at her. Little Charlotte fills my life with light every day and is the reason why I want to get healthy and well again.

My Goals Are:

  • Exercise 3xs a week
  • Walk every day
  • Eat more natural foods (i.e. no sugar, more vegetables, less take-out)
  • NEVER resort to any form of purging
  • Go back to my pre-pregnancy weight of 150lbs
  • Learn to love myself every step of the way <3
So here I am, ready to start paying the price for wellness. Get it? PRICE?
Here's my week 1 selfie:
WARNING: You can see my midriff and... my STRETCH MARKS!

To start things off right here is an inspiring Ted Talk that has great analogies for losing a lot of weight and keeping it off.

Wish me luck!!! :)
